Well, what would you say since this rock is completely incompetent at talking to people he's known since he was a kid? Sometimes I feel they don't take me seriously because I'm younger than them. As if I don't have enough life experience or something.

Really, it's just a matter of talking to your cousin, congratulating him on the relationship, and eventually seeing if he still has any viable concerns and proceeding from there depending on what he says. It isn't as though I haven't given him advice before; as such, it won't necessarily look odd coming from me.

C-could you? I... I don't know if I could do it without making him mad. Like you said... I'm not the most tactful person. Though... if he finds out I asked you to talk to him, well, that might make him mad.

[Derek lets out a moan.]

Part of me is thinking I should keep my ruddy nose out of this... but... I am worried about Foggy getting the rug pulled out from under him...

Not terribly much, really. I've been doing well enough? Although all of this is serving as such a solid reminder of why I don't date.

You know... [Derek leans back against the couch.] ever since we've been friends, I haven't known you to go on a date. Why is that? More committed to your job or you just don't want to deal with something serious? Not that I blame you if that's the reason of course.

I...don't know, I've just never been up for it. Honestly, I've never dated before.

Oh, well... that's alright I guess. But, wow... and I thought Tatsuo's love life was uneventful. He hasn't been in a relationship for YEARS and he hasn't gone on a date in FOREVER!

[Oh look, Derek feels comfortable enough with Cumore to mock his non-existent love life.]

Let's see, I've had... three girlfriends but only one was really serious. I mean, you wouldn't consider girlfriends in high school a serious type of relationship now would you?

I was set up on a few dates when I was away at university. They were never anything that worked out, however. I usually don't go looking for anyone, otherwise.

[Derek lets out a snort.]

I never went looking for anyone I dated. They just appeared in my life unexpectedly. Some I was instantly attracted to, other times it took me some time to figure out I wanted to ask them out.

[Derek voice suddenly turns bitter.]

And then there are ones like my ex where I was instantly attracted to her but I had to wait over eight months to ask her out because she had a bloody boyfriend at the time.

...There are some people I don't even bother with, and people already attached to someone else are a strong subset.

[Like, really, why would you even put yourself through that.]

I was nineteen and I thought I had found perfection. Can you blame me? I mean, her hair was crazy bushy, but her brain... ugh she was so smart...

I don't know, I was a bit too introverted to want to date much in high school, and once I was out of it I didn't really have anyone I felt any sort of connection to.

True, it's important to feel a connection with someone if you want to try to date them seriously. I can understand that.

[Another sip of his beer.]

Then what attracts you to a person?

I...haven't really given it much thought, to be honest.
