[Derek listens as Cumore is talking and as he does, a sense of relief comes over him and it feels like a weight has been lifted off his shoulders. FINALLY SOME GETS HIS POINT OF VIEW!]
THANK YOU!
[Derek cradles his head in his hands for a moment before looking up again.]
Why can't more people be like you? I think at some point Matt tried to offer an opportunity to talk to him later, but that was after a battering ram of questions! AND...[Derek points a finger at Cumore.] you know what else he did? Told Cleo. I mean, she already dislikes me enough and he goes off and tells her what happened.I mean, yeah she found him in the bathroom, still leg-locked, but it doesn't bloody well mean that she has to track me down after work and demand to talk to me about what I said and did to Matt. And pray tell what was I suppose to do? Say "no" and risk getting my arm broken? She's fucking ripped! So, I try having a civil conversation with her in a coffee shop and she just starts attack me, verbally I mean, about my magic, what I did, what I said. AS IF I DIDN'T FEEL SHITTY ENOUGH! SHE DIDN'T HAVE TO RUB IT IN! AND IN PUBLIC!
[Derek is starting to feel really angry, his grip on his bottle of beer is like a death grip and his other fist is in a fist.]
[He isn't here to chide him, not really, but at the same time getting angry about this isn't going to go over well; just...chill a bit, and Cumore will try to ignore the fact that he's pretty sure that sort of tone is the one Alexei and LeBlanc tended to take with him when he was overexcited about something.]
People really do need to stop giving you trouble because of the magic and all - that's unbelievably tiresome, especially since I doubt you would use it on a person without good reason. If Murdock isn't going to keep to himself and instead insists on cornering you somewhere, of course you're going to ensure that he can't keep doing that for a while, it's a natural conclusion. A bit extreme, perhaps, but not altogether something that can't be understood.
This entire thing sounds like a case of people being unable to mind their own business, at the center of it.
[Derek chill? LOL! Derek flings his hands up in the air in exasperation.]
Exactly! It is my privacy being invaded here, yet I am the one coming out at the bad guy and whose feelings don't seem to matter! And I want to warn my cousin a Matt and his stupid stubborn ass, but I can't think of a way to tell him that he will actually believe me.
Who? Matt or Foggy? I don't see Matt taking you telling his he's a dick well. And Foggy... what would you even say? Hey, Derek talked to me and he's worried that your boyfriend will eventually metaphorically stab you in the back?
Derek, I love you in the dearest and most platonic way possible, but you have the charisma of a rock - there are infinitely more diplomatic ways to handle things than any of that.
Well, what would you say since this rock is completely incompetent at talking to people he's known since he was a kid? Sometimes I feel they don't take me seriously because I'm younger than them. As if I don't have enough life experience or something.
Really, it's just a matter of talking to your cousin, congratulating him on the relationship, and eventually seeing if he still has any viable concerns and proceeding from there depending on what he says. It isn't as though I haven't given him advice before; as such, it won't necessarily look odd coming from me.
[Derek shifts a bit on the couch to face Cumore a bit better.]
C-could you? I... I don't know if I could do it without making him mad. Like you said... I'm not the most tactful person. Though... if he finds out I asked you to talk to him, well, that might make him mad.
[Derek lets out a moan.]
Part of me is thinking I should keep my ruddy nose out of this... but... I am worried about Foggy getting the rug pulled out from under him...
Your name won't come up if it isn't immediately relevant. It'll strictly be a matter of personal interest and curiosity, as far as your cousin is concerned.
Alex, I'd really appreciate it if you could do this for me and tell me how it goes. I'll so owe you one for pretty much putting you in the middle of this..
You know... [Derek leans back against the couch.] ever since we've been friends, I haven't known you to go on a date. Why is that? More committed to your job or you just don't want to deal with something serious? Not that I blame you if that's the reason of course.
Oh, well... that's alright I guess. But, wow... and I thought Tatsuo's love life was uneventful. He hasn't been in a relationship for YEARS and he hasn't gone on a date in FOREVER!
[Oh look, Derek feels comfortable enough with Cumore to mock his non-existent love life.]
Let's see, I've had... three girlfriends but only one was really serious. I mean, you wouldn't consider girlfriends in high school a serious type of relationship now would you?
I was set up on a few dates when I was away at university. They were never anything that worked out, however. I usually don't go looking for anyone, otherwise.
I never went looking for anyone I dated. They just appeared in my life unexpectedly. Some I was instantly attracted to, other times it took me some time to figure out I wanted to ask them out.
[Derek voice suddenly turns bitter.]
And then there are ones like my ex where I was instantly attracted to her but I had to wait over eight months to ask her out because she had a bloody boyfriend at the time.

I doubt he has concerns. [small>A beat.] So... you would really do that for me? Talk to him?

Well, yes? If you wanted me to, I don't see why not.

[Derek takes another sip of his beer.]
So... anything new with you?
[Great transition Derek... A+]

Not terribly much, really. I've been doing well enough? Although all of this is serving as such a solid reminder of why I don't date.
[Feelings. Ew.]

I...don't know, I've just never been up for it. Honestly, I've never dated before.

WHAT? NOT EVER? Not a single date?
[How the hell is that possible?]
no subject
Single dates, yes. Actual relationships, no. Is that a little better?

I was nineteen and I thought I had found perfection. Can you blame me? I mean, her hair was crazy bushy, but her brain... ugh she was so smart...
